New RFID Tags May Replace Barcodes →
Made from semiconducting ink, these RFID tags can be printed along with the packaging, rather than being tacked on separately. If that can be done with your average printing press, that would be one cool trick to present to customers.

Custom Webkit Scrollbars →
Although the implementation is Safari-only and doesn’t work perfectly, I still like how the custom scrollbar looks. I might use this on my own blog.

Solaris Theme →
This is cool for two reasons: one, the theme is quite good-looking, and two, I didn’t know you could make premium Tumblr themes for sale! Guess what I’m going to look into doing! (via Chris Bowler)

No Firefox on Windows Phone 7 →
The desirability of smartphones really do depend on the browsing experience, especially for the ones that don’t have 100,000 applications that can serve as alternative interfaces for online services. With CSS3 and HTML5 elements more prevalent on mobile-optimized sites now than the desktop, the Windows Phone’s IE browser is probably not going to work with them. With the demise of...

Fireworks Alternatives on Trial →
I personally use Photoshop and Illustrator for all my image editing needs, but all the Fireworks praise (granted, always lumped in with complaints) is making me wonder if any of these tools are worth trying out. Acorn looks like it has a ton of potential - I think I’ll give it a try! (via Adobe Gripes)

Go Go Gadget Blog Post
In the spirit of today’s XKCD comic, I’ve compiled a short list of other things that Inspector Gadget should have had: “Go Go Gadget Transmogrifier!” “Go Go Gadget Solution to the Middle East Conflicts!” “Go Go Gadget Cloaking Device!” “Go Go Gadget Sushi Bar!” “Go Go Gadget Lightsaber!” “Go Go Gadget...

OK, I Get the Hint
Every time I ask my friends if they’ve seen what I had just put on my blog, they tell me “Yeah, I already saw it in your RSS feed, stop asking stupid questions!” So, as of today, I’m no longer under the impression that people don’t take RSS feeds seriously. Now I have Feedburner set up and everything! Now excuse me while I go check NetNewsWire instead of waiting...

The dream is over: RIP Palm →
From a digital desert of applications, to quality control problems worthy of Chrysler, and a baffling marketing campaign, Palm simply fell on its ass despite having a very good basic system in WebOS. They can only hope that a large company with both an established mobile market and an aging OS (basically, RIM) will buy them out before they collapse. (via Cameron Moll)

The Shooting War Has Begun →
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? We’ll never know unless Vin Diesel picks a fight with Chuck Norris, but this battle - now declared a “war” by outsiders - between Google and Apple will give us a good idea when the dust settles.

When the iPhone built-in EQ won't cut it
I recently purchased some Apple In-Ear Headphones off of eBay for $50 off the list price, and the sound quality is good, but only with these crazy equalizer settings above (in my opinion) - else the bass doesn’t have any force to it and the treble is hardly noticeable. Sadly, there’s no way to directly change equalizer settings on the iPhone/iPod Touch apart from the presets, and...

How can you be so stupid?
Aside from obvious inaccuracies and stupidity, this image I saw on Reddit made me sad. People keep putting down the iPad because of its specs. Yes, a netbook has more processing power and can run a conventional operating system. Sure, a Tablet PC has a stylus and hardware keyboard that the iPad doesn’t have. Fine, Dell makes laptops for the same price that do anything you can think of using...

MetaLab Goes Open Source? →
It’s one thing to use a site as inspiration, but another thing to take UI elements bit-by-bit and reuse them as your own. Good of Mozilla to publicly apologize for this, but you gotta wonder how a copied version can make it to the public without someone noticing or caring.

The Log: The Case FOR Flash →
Lots of good points. Flash can be the best choice in many cases - don’t automatically assume that crazy CSS transforms and canvas tags will give the best user experience when Flash can do it faster and cheaper.

Border-radius.com →
I always found CSS3 border radius code annoying to create - gotta create it for Webkit, then for Gecko, and if it only uses the rounded corners on the top or something, multiply the irritation by a factor of 2 as you create the code for each rounded corner. This website has the right idea - now if only it was a Dashboard widget instead =) (by jacob, via kevin)

A great comparison between iPhone RSS applications - which are actually of decent quality. Reeder is by far my favorite of them all, from the ten minutes I’ve been using it. The interface is fast, even on my first-gen iPod Touch. (via Minimal Mac)
