I'm Back From my Unintended Internet Vacation
If you’ve missed me for the past week or two, it’s because I’ve had very little Internet access over the past week. As I’m stuck living in the middle of nowhere, our internet is provided by a long-range Wifi setup, with an antenna on a small tower next to the house. Apparently nobody bothered to waterproof the cables running to it, so a rainstorm knocked out the outdoor...

It’s about time we’ve seen a legitimate competitor to the iPod Touch. Has most of the specs of the $229 Touch, but for $80 less - you get a lower-res screen and a worse camera, but the camera is supposedly bad on the Touch anyway. It might be a better deal if you’re willing to consider Android 2.2 - or if you’re looking for a relatively cheap way to try it out.

If Anyone Can Lock it, Consider it Locked
If only Google had the foresight to see this coming. Software is only as open as the hardware it runs on. A PC is quite open and standardized, while a phone is only as open as the software developer, manufacturer and carrier negotiate it to be. What Google did with Android was to relinquish control to the other two entities in line, the carrier and manufacturer. Sadly, they aren’t willing...
