Ridiculous Code Snippet Of The Day
I just came across this in something I was working on today at work, and I must say, this seems redundant. Also, this seems redundant. IF (conditions == true) Then Print result; ELSE Print result; End

Results of Browsing Experiment 2: DuckDuckGo
Long story short? I couldn’t make it through a week using DuckDuckGo as my primary search engine. The service does sometimes give me answers that Google just doesn’t manage to pull off, but at other times it prioritizes fresh content too much, and there’s no way to search an arbitrary site for content with a “site:” keyword like in Google - and lots of my searches are...

Live Forums?
I’ve been listening to Dan Benjamin and Marco Arment’s excellent podcast Build and Analyze, and they’ve been discussing the best ways for programmers to interact with eachother - or, more accurately, which methods stink. I thought about it yesterday too, and I think I have an idea for what would be awesomely useful: a live-updating forum, where every forum thread is basically a...

Quick Note about the Verizon iPhone
On Verizon’s Android phones, getting Visual Voicemail costs an extra $2.99 a month. It’s conceivable to think this will still apply to the iPhone (though, since the iPhone and Apple basically invented the thing in the mass market, they might consider it too important to let Verizon do this). Just one more Verizon quirk to consider. I myself use Google Voice instead, though its Android...

I know the guys at Tumblr are doing their best to keep the site running in the face of a huge popularity upswing, but my sympathy can’t outweigh my sense of humor, and some of these jokes at their expense are too clever to ignore.

Removing the Home Button? →
John Gruber states: We’ll see, I guess. How in the world would you get home on an iPhone using a five-finger pinch holding it one hand? The iPad seems like a “maybe”, but I find it really hard to imagine a Home-button-less iPhone. I do find it hard to believe that they would remove the button and make people learn multitouch gestures to get around the iPhone. I find it easy, however, to...

Android's Weakness is its Power
So, with Verizon’s announcement of the iPhone, we’ll finally get to see just how competitive Android is against iOS, now that the devices have a level playing field. My prediction is that Google is going to have to get used to being the underdog in the world of smartphones. A successful underdog at that, but I think Google is going to be surprised in a few weeks. This might sound odd...

Ruining a Good Thing
So, the news of the day turned out to be Google yanking the H.264 codec out of Chrome. (Also, somebody released a phone on Verizon or something.) Of course, I’d like to put in my two cents. It’s kinda sad how this is playing out. Apple is pushing a codec it has a lot of ties to, H.264, so it isn’t at the mercy of Adobe Flash for its video needs. Google, in turn, turns around...

"See ya Suckers" →
Ben Brooks on the upcoming Verizon iPhone: It is not just me saying this, a lot of people are saying 1/11 is Verizon iPhone day. I don’t want one, screw Verizon. If you think AT&T is bad I can’t wait to hear what you think of Verizon. Oh and this also means AT&Ts service will be better, see ya suckers. I know for a fact that when I go on the road, there’s no chance in hell...

Browsing Experiment 2: DuckDuckGo
For a week, I’m setting Chrome’s default search engine to DuckDuckGo. After reading Ben Brooks’ comment about the luck he’s been having with it, I think it’s worth a shot. Also, after reading Marco Arment’s comments about Google’s suckiness, I think it’s probably the smart thing to do. Who knows, maybe we’ve stumbled upon a brand new search...
