My iPad Game Recommendations
Last Friday I stumbled on the game Ticket to Ride on the App Store. It looked interesting, but it wasn’t until I looked at the screenshots that I decided to buy it. I have a rule: any game that features my hometown gets insta-bought, and there it was right at the top of the map. Same reason I bought Empire: Total War.
However, unlike Empire: Total War (which is not an iPad game, by the...

On-Demand Food Printing →
Someday I’ll use this technology to start the world’s greatest chocolate shop. Requirements to work there will be being a great chef plus experience in managing prepress workflows at a major printing company.

Attempting to Make Sense of the TweetDeck Deal
I’ve been thinking about the TweetDeck deal ever since it happened a couple weeks ago. The question on my mind is “Why would Twitter spend the money on this?”
The above article says it’s a defensive move: “They simply couldn’t allow UberMedia to have so much market share in this space.” I don’t see how that would be such a problem for Twitter, though....

Publisher FUD: The "battle" against Angry Birds →
Apparently publishers are getting worried that with books moving to tablet devices, they will get destroyed by having to compete with games and other applications for the user’s attention. The idea is that why would anyone ever want to read a book when there’s so much else to do on the same device?
The problem with this idea is that you can flip the logic around and come up with the...

Reeder For Mac Beta Update →
Looks like it’s shaping up to be a very nice application. Unfortunately for the developer, I don’t have a use for it; fortunately, that’s because I’m so addicted to his iPad app that I won’t even consider a desktop RSS reader.

RIM - It's the Software
RIM didn’t make a name for itself in amazing OS’s. Nor did they make a name for themselves in beautiful hardware. They don’t get huge praise for the aplication ecosystem, and they arent known for amazing integration with desktop OS’s.
The key to the BlackBerry has always been the ability to communicate quite effortlessly on a mobile device.
This isn’t exactly a...

Alternative Vote & UK/Canadian Politics →
I’m not British or Canadian (well, technically I could be considered Canadian, but I don’t live there), but the idea of an alternative vote sounds like a good idea to me: it at least guarantees that a majority gets a candidate that’s close to what they want, rather than the biggest minority getting the candidate they want. It’s useless in America, where two candidates get...

Font Sizing with rem →
If you’re the kind of guy who needs to easily understand just how many pixels your fonts are sized to in your website’s CSS, then meet your new best friend.
Personally, I just pick an em size in the ballpark of where I want and play with the numbers until the text looks as nice as possible. Less code that way, and a lot easier on my brain.

iPad Facebook Apps →
MG Siegler:
What’s crazy is that Facebook is letting other developers not affiliated with the company own this space. That’s great for those developers, but it’s potentially bad for Facebook. Most of the apps that promise a “native” iPad Facebook experience are simply Facebook’s touch-optimized site wrapped in skins. And most of them are mediocre — not to mention very ugly. And many of them...
