Results of Browsing Experiment 2: DuckDuckGo
Long story short? I couldn’t make it through a week using DuckDuckGo as my primary search engine. The service does sometimes give me answers that Google just doesn’t manage to pull off, but at other times it prioritizes fresh content too much, and there’s no way to search an arbitrary site for content with a “site:” keyword like in Google - and lots of my searches are for stuff where I remember the site but not the title, like “site:arstechnica.com tumblr posterous”.
But, as a supplementary engine, it’s not a bad choice at all. I do like the UI compared to Google as well. But, it hasn’t quite matched Google on sheer usability yet. Someday…
