New York Times to Begin Charging for Regular Access

I wouldn’t be surprised if this works, if the price is reasonable, and if it’s not a subscription.

On big news days, I can see them getting a lot of sales from people who used up their allotments and need to know what’s really going on. There’s a danger that those people will go to TV or blogs instead, but I hope there’s enough of them that pay the fees that NYT is able to stay profitable.

As much as I think that printing is cool, digital technology has made it obsolete, and newspapers are going to all but die within the next ten years. It would be nice to see them replaced with respectable news sources instead of stupid opinions, political propaganda and shameless corporate plugs.
