Subtraction.com: What the NYT Pay Wall Really Costs

Speaking for myself, here’s two reasons why I won’t be paying for the New York Times:

1. I can’t afford to spend so much on news. All news does is make me better informed - call me a bad person, but I would rather spend that money on something entertaining.

2. After reading through some of The Daily, I’ve come to the conclusion that it accomplishes the goal of not making me feel stupid after every article, something that sites like CNN or local news sites can’t claim. At $4-$5 a month that’s a much better deal than the $20 that NYT wants, and I know that the New York Times isn’t four or five times better than The Daily.

The situation could certainly be better - if someone could offer me quality news delivered straight to Instapaper or an app on par with its quality, they will get my money, because they will have just invented the greatest news delivery method ever.
