iPad Text Editors, Part II

I have a few updates to my previous post about iPad Text Editors since my review a couple weeks ago (exactly two weeks ago as it turns out). In those two weeks I’ve gathered some new information that you might find interesting.

First, a couple days ago I had a terrible syncing issue with WriteRoom that caused all my notes to be lost. Fortunately Dropbox keeps versions but somehow I ended up with a bunch of empty files with the titles of the old notes, and “conflicted copies” of the contents of the old notes in new filenames. I no longer recommend WriteRoom - the bugs have simply become intolerable. It’s a shame, too, because the desktop app was always good and the UI of the iPad app was wonderful when it worked.

However, Elements is now a kickass application. The latest bug fix not only solves all the gripes I had before, but also introduces a new Dark theme. It’s not quite the TRON-like cyan on black theme I rest up WriteRoom with, but it’s still a great writing theme - it has a Daring Fireball-like style to it. Tumblr posting now works properly - I posted this with it - and there are now bigger margins in landscape iPad mode to narrow the text to a readable width. It now fills all of my wants and needs! Of course, I’ll update this post if its syncing turns out to fall apart like the last apps that I used.

It was also suggested that I try Notesy. Unfortunately I didn’t want to put in another $5 into an app that I probably wouldn’t use, particularly with the new awesomeness of Elements. So, I can only go off of the feature list and screenshots. It looks like a perfectly functional application but I like Elements’ UI a bit better. It has nearly all the features of WriteRoom and Elements, though, so if you bought it you should be happy with your purchase. I already recommend it over WriteRoom, and Elements doesn’t appear to outdo it by much.

So, my conclusion? Buy Elements, unless you have Notesy already.
