This site does not function correctly for IE6/7 users. I recommend upgrading to Internet Explorer 8 or above as soon as possible for greater security and more advanced page rendering capabilities.

Otherwise, you can download the PDF copy of my resumé. This will work with nearly all PDF readers, but if you don't have one you can download Adobe Reader here.

Skills & Abilities

Web Design & Development

I am capable with CSS and XHTML/HTML5. I know jQuery pretty well, and I'm learning more about other Javascript techniques. I've used the WordPress and ExpressionEngine CMS platforms to develop sites. I have also dabbled in PHP and Ruby on Rails for developing actual web applications, though I can't say that I'm proficient with those two languages and platforms yet.

My web development software of choice is Espresso, though I also like Coda and Textmate. I currently do my personal work on a Hackintosh, which I will gladly upgrade to a Macbook Pro or iMac when it is financially feasible.

Native Development

I've learned about Visual Basic .NET & Java at Ferris State. I've also got an okay grasp of Ruby. In my first job, I also used the scripting language in AutoHotkey to automate some desktop tasks quickly. I realize that this doesn't represent a lot of experience, but I am very excited to learn more about native programming and application development.

Printing

Though these are all skills that I've practiced in the classroom and not in the real world, I've learned a lot about the printing process. In particular, I learned about photo correction, color management, RIP's, workflow, VDP and imposition. I also know about quality control, estimating, and project planning.

Software I am familiar with:

  • Adobe Creative Suite
    • Photoshop
    • InDesign
    • Illustrator
  • Microsoft Office
  • Kodak Preps
  • Enfocus PitStop
  • Bitstream Pageflex
  • Promail
  • Espresso
  • TextMate
  • Coda

Website & Development Examples

  • Transponder App

    Dates:

This is the teaser page for a Windows Twitter application that I've been developing with the help of a friend. The app itself is written in C# and uses a Webkit-based interface. A screenshot of its current state is linked here.

  • This Resumé

    Dates:

I used HTML5 and a few CSS3 effects in designing this resumé. I designed it to have simple & effective navigation, and I placed emphasis on the typography. It uses a jQuery-powered Javascript snippet to enable smooth scrolling to anchor tags from the navigation menu. It also has a slightly stripped-down and optimized print stylesheet because it is more likely to be printed than most websites I've come across.

  • Think Patented

    Dates:

Though I arrived after the initial design was completed, I integrated the existing desktop version into ExpressionEngine, and I developed the mobile version of the site almost entirely from scratch.

  • Ferris State University Print Department Site

    Dates:

This WordPress site uses HTML5 as well as lots of CSS3 effects which give the site's elements a letterpress-indented look. It was an interesting project because WordPress was not originally a CMS and issues arose as a consequence of using it as such, though the capabilities and lack of expense was worth it.

  • JimCloudman.com

    Dates:

I did the design for my Tumblr site. It's designed for modern browsers (not IE6), using HTML5 and CSS3.

  • R&B Electronics

    Dates:

This was a static site on a Windows hosted server that only ran ASP, so I was able to use ASP templates to get around duplicating code, for the most part. A nice site considering the limitations at the time.

Recommendations

Brandon Martinez:

First and foremost, Jim is dedicated at finding new solutions; in fact, I may say it's his best quality. He will come up with numerous ideas to tackle any task, no matter how big or small it is, and will defend, counter, or revise his ideas to make them work (he and I have had several battles over his ideas).

There are some drawbacks to this, however. He can get easily sidetracked at times, trying a little too hard to implement his ideas. However, with a little guidance, he can go far.

Secondly, Jim is very willing to learn anything you throw at him. He will study up on any new technology, and try to apply past and newly acquired knowledge to current problems. He is willing to invest his time to achieve a higher level, which is very admirable.

Jim was a great classmate, and would also make an excellent co-worker. I can see him going far, once he finds a place willing to let him experiment, experiment, and experiment (can somebody say R & D?).
